A serious hair gel moment for Poppy
The European Invitational Gymnastic championships was the biggest ever with 265 gymnasts representing 14 clubs, 8 counties and 4 regions throughout Great Britain. The private invitational event was heavily attended with programmes sold out half way through the day and also food and drink also...the weather which wasmost horrid, did not stop the masses from turning out.
The event which was hosted by Alan & Donna and the fantastic team from Arabian started with them travelling from Bletchley at 5-45am and being ready for their early arrivals at 7-45 in Spalding. No-one was quite prepared for the foggy conditions which at times were very bad. Nevertheless the event started on time and amazingly it ran late but by just 7 minutes!
Gymnasts competed on up to 5 pieces of equipment throughout the day and were hugely entertained by the ever impressive DJ and MC for the day in Daryl. Not only was the crowd and the gymnasts given such good entertainment in the background but good refreshments along with hot piping food went down a treat as the fog surrounded the wonderful Spalding venue which was turned into a great arena with spectators at the same level as the competition or they could stand on the balcony sipping their tea whist supporting their children. Many thanks to Alec & Carol and the team at Spalding who assisted greatly in making sure the venue was ready to roc k….as rock it did!
Not every gymnast was able to win medals offered at 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th in many rounds, but what they all did get was a colour certificate and a European Rosette to pin on their wall. Pictures were taken brilliantly by De Photo’s and De are available online ( pass arabian & armitage) . Those medal winners will be listed once the paperwork is completed.
There event was the biggest ever held in Lincolnshire and at the Spalding venue but ran like clockwork and this was thanks to the clubs taking part and their great coaches who stayed on track along with a huge amount of judges who gave up so much time to judge…
" Events like this are not easy to run but when you have such great team work then they are a doddle, yes we organise it and steer it but without the coaches/clubs/judges/ and volunteers left right and centre we would struggle. What makes these events work is the fact the clubs want it to be held and want to be part of it too.
They don’t just turn up and think of themselves, NO…they actively play a part within the event and it’s this warmth and friendship that makes a huge event like this so popular. We are honoured to be able to host it and at a really nice venue too. Thank you to everyone who played their part...it was your contribution that made the whole thing as good as it was...possibly the best ever event to date”
